Marina Towers & Marina del Rey Hotel

  • Provide a convenient location for Marina del Rey Cedars-Sinai Hospital to park their bloodmobile for blood drives. This occurs 2-3 times a year.
  • May 2023 – Coordinated property visit EntresNous Youth Empowerment Services (Compton-based nonprofit) to learn from hotel leaders and gain insight into a hospitality career.
  • March 2023 – Participated with MDR Tourism Board’s sponsorship of the 2nd Annual LA County Dragon Boat race in collaboration with Team DPW at Burton Chace Park.
  • December 2022 – Visited EntreNous classroom in Compton to speak with students regarding hospitality career opportunities.
  • October 2022 – Participated in ProStart FIT Day organized by the California Restaurant Association Foundation and visited local ProStart culinary classrooms to teach high school students how to land a job with hands-on activities. ProStart is a 2-year high school culinary arts and restaurant management program that connects the restaurant industry with the classroom.
  • May 2022 – Participated in LATTC’s Job/Career & Resource Expo, which connects businesses with individuals seeking employment and community resources.

Essex Marina City Club


  • Water Taxi stop provided near the Fire Station (Waterfront Walk) for the past 10 years.

  • Organized local harbor in-water clean-ups.

  • Free public pumpout available 24/7.

  • Participated in the Dockwalker program

  • Disseminate local public LA County event information to over 400 people.

  • Essex team donated blood at several drives.

  • Welcomed new liveaboards to our marina for housing.

  • Provided feedback on MdR for All as a longtime constituent.

Marina del Rey Sportfishing

  • Youth fishing program funded all or in party by Sportfishing Association’s Friends of Rollo, the MdR Anglers, Halibut Derby and other benevolent groups. Up to 1,500 kids involved during the summer.
  • Hosted group of students in 2022 to demonstrate the fun of fishing and working on a sportfishing boat.

Neptune Marina & Marina 41

  • Participation annually in a Toys for Tots drive at Neptune Marina.

  • Working with Westside Food Bank for an annual food drive around Thanksgiving.

  • Communicate with residents in support of Summer Water Taxi programs.

  • Provide a boat slip right off the promenade in front of the hotel for the water taxi.

  • Hosted events for Greystar-affiliated organizations.

  • Provide yoga classes for residents every Saturday.

  • Intern program designed for those looking to gain exposure to the multi-family real estate industry. A college student local to the area spends 8-12 weeks onsite in the leasing office. This is a paid internship where student receives exposure to all sides of the property management business, being involved in leasing and administrative work, as well as pricing analysis and maintenance supervision. 
  • Equity Residential gives every employee 8 hours paid time-off to volunteer for a community service event or activity, including homeless shelters, food banks, and more.

BREAKWATER & PEARL

  • Equity Residential gives every employee 8 hours of paid time off to volunteer for a community service event or activity, including homeless shelters, food banks, and more. 

  • Support for the Move for Hunger national food drive effort – donated 92 pounds/77 meals in 2023.

  • Equity Residential gives every employee 8 hours of paid time off to volunteer at a community service event or activity, including homeless shelters, food banks, and more.

  • Support for the Move for Hunger national food drive effort – donated 46 pounds/38 meals in 2023.

  • Donate clubhouse space for national elections voting center.

FantaSea Yachts & Shores

  • Hosted over past few months, without any charge:

  • The Boys & Girls Club of Monterey Park

  • Friendship Circle Los Angeles (Special Needs children and their families – a day event for kids and an evening event for mothers)

  • Children’s Hospital holiday fundraiser and toy drive

  • National Nurses Day Goodwill cruise

  • Make a Wish Foundation/Larger than Life (for cancer kids).

  • Beautiful I am Foundation

  • Typically, we host one charity event a month.

In concert with the Lessees Association, participated in the following:
  • Funding for “Beach Days” for underprivileged youth/organizations to spend a day or participate in youth programs selected by the individual participating Supervisors.
  • Funding for law enforcement during the summer months—such as buying bicycles for Deputy Sheriffs to patrol the pedestrian waterfront paths to subsidize the regular Sheriff’s Department presence.
  • Funding for DBH Fourth of July fireworks and other programs, as well as the privately run Holiday Boat Parade.

Community benefits provided by Shores

  • Provision of Affordable housing under a covenant with the County

  • HUD rules required Shores to advertise our affordable units in community newspapers and through community organizations in 2013, when Shores opened

  • Shores’ construction financing included Davis-Bacon “prevailing wage” and other HUD-required labor agreements

  • Subsidy of EV Charging Stations (residents pay a lower than market rate)

  • Special design of advanced storm water quality treatment system

  • Sponsorship of Yoga on roof-top lounge and/or in fitness area on weekend mornings

  • Sponsorship of food trucks to set up at Shores one night per week Sponsorship of annual “Taste of Marina del Rey” for local restaurants 

  • Philanthropic activities of the owners and/property managers of Shores.

  • Shores agreed to provide 10% affordable units (54 apartments) onsite (rather than payment of an in-lieu fee, as proposed initially by the Department of Beaches and Harbors). HUD rules required Shores to advertise the new affordable units in community newspapers and through community organizations in 2013, when Shores opened In 2016, as part of a refinancing, Shores offered, and the County accepted, that the effective term of the Affordable Housing Covenant for all 54 units be extended from the HUD-required 30 years (2043) to the termination of the lease in 2063. Philanthropic activities of the owners and/or property managers of Shores.

Pacific Ocean Management – Fisherman’s Village

  • Support many community organizations with sponsorships such as Boys and Girls Club (sailing program), Dragon Boat Festival, Holiday Boat Parade, and others.
  • Hosting free entertainment for the community with its holiday and summer concert program.
  • The main port for water taxis at Fisherman’s Village is operated by the tenant, City Cruises.
  • Member of the local Rotary Club that provides funding and sponsorships throughout the community.
  • Providing office space for the Boys and Girls Club at Fisherman’s Village

Marina Harbor Apartments and Anchorage

  • Host Seabin events for AP environmental science classes from local high schools

  • Los Angeles Waterkeeper (LAW) is an organization of Waterkeeper Alliance, the world’s fastest growing environmental movement. Along with 300 other Waterkeeper Organizations, their movement works for swimmable, drinkable, and fishable waterways worldwide.

  • Programs and Services Offered to the Community:

  • Summer fishing trip for underserved youth. Educate on responsible fishing and connecting with the ocean.

  • Oil Spill Response and Prevention.

  • Creek 2 Coast Clean-up Challenge. Covering 4,751 sq miles.

  • Community Water Watch. Ensure community members have the tools, training, and resources to identify toxic runoff and hold polluters and regulators accountable via litigation efforts.

  • Clean water (global fight for environmental solid regulations)

  • Climate and safe energy (advocates for a no-carbon future)

  • Pure farms, pure waters (battles pollution)

  • Other:

  • Promote County sponsored events – community activities such as vaccination clinics, blood drives, Marina Harbor clean-up days. 

  • Offer free kayak & bike loaners to residents and boaters.

  • Host and attend Dockmaster meetings to promote cohesive management of Marinas, partner on educating boaters, etc. 

  • Educating new boaters with helpful tips and training

  • Distribute literature for “Best Management Practices” for boaters and divers including information and awareness of “TMDL’s”.

The BoatYard

Boy Scouts of America

  • Provide complimentary slips for Scout boat handling education during Emerald Bay Week.

  • Provide car and trailer parking during Troop 223 Catalina week.

  • Donated commissioning costs (approx. $10,000) for new sailboat(s) donation to EB sailing program.

  • Constructed and donated pier barges for Camp Emerald Bay.

  • Provide maintenance for Emerald Bay vessels at cost.

  • Provide periodic small boat handling instruction for scouts and adult leaders.

Sea Scouts
  • Provide yard space and repair work at cost for Sea Ship “Manta”
  • Provide instruction on ship maintenance techniques.
  • Provide an introduction to marine employment opportunities to Sea Scouts.
Academia Advance
  • Provided tours of the shipyard to 6th - 12th grade students from Highland Park, Los Angeles.
  • Introduce students to employment possibilities in the marine work environment.
  • Demonstrate heavy equipment operations and interact with Beaches and Harbors staff to answer student questions.
Row LA
  • Provide discounted slips to Row LA for mooring of chase boats
  • Provide repair and maintenance at a cost
Mac Rowing
  • Provide discounted repair work for row boats and trailers
  • Provide parking when needed for home events.
4th of July / Christmas Boat Parade
  • Provide free dockage and parking for judge boats a Christmas Boat Parade
  • Provide parking for 4th of July events.

AMLI Apartments

  • Partner with MOVE FOR HUNGER and hold multiple food drives throughout the year.

  • Offer residents, free workout classes, each weekend

  • Free use of bikes for residents and guests to cycle around MDR

  • Complimentary paddleboard/kayaks usage for residents and guests to use

  • AMLI participates in an annual tree planting event and works with Tree People to plant trees in communities in LA County/LA City to help renew the depleted landscape

  • Held a bag recycling event (this is done annually) to encourage our residents to turn in all of their plastic bags for recycling

California Yacht Club (CYC)

  • CYC is a Leader in Protecting our Local Ocean for All to Enjoy

  • L.A. Interceptor - On Earth Day, April 22, 2023, CYC announced an exciting multi-year partnership with The Ocean Cleanup organization. This international organization has deployed the innovative Interceptor vessel that is capturing tons of trash in Ballona Creek - trash that would otherwise reach the ocean. CYC is providing its facilities and transportation to the Interceptor for The Ocean Cleanup and its sponsors.   • Seabins - CYC is the first yacht club in the United States to participate in the Seabin Ocean Cleaning Project, with the deployment of Seabins’ innovative devices for removing floating debris from the waters of the marina. See https://seabin.io/home/

  • Coastal Cleanup - Every September, CYC members volunteer for a community-driven Coastal Cleanup event to remove trash and debris from our local seashore.

  • Balloon Fishing Contest - CYC holds an annual Balloon Fishing Contest, an initiative aimed at catching and removing deflated balloons found floating in the ocean, where they can be a hazard to marine life.

Boater Education, Safety and Environmental Programs
California Yacht Club hosts various boater education, safety and environmental programs free and open to the public throughout the year, cooperating with federal, state and local government agencies and organizations. Coming up on Thursday, July 27 is the Oil Spill Response workshop for marinas and yacht clubs sponsored by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Office of Spill Prevention and Response, the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways and the California Coastal Commission.


Black Girls Sail

In March 2023, California Yacht Club initiated a partnership with Black Girls Surf (BGS) group leader Rhonda Harper to develop a pilot program called Black Girls Sail. The program is the first of its kind and aims to create new opportunities for BGS athletes to learn and excel in the sport of sailing. CYC is looking forward to welcoming BGS student athletes into its Youth Sailing Program summer session, which begins on June 12th.


Boys and Girls Club

CYC is working with leaders of the Boys and Girls Club and L.A. County to devise and provide programs for boys and girls, with an initial focus on advanced sailing training.


W.A.T.E.R. Program

CYC is working with the L.A. County Department of Beaches and Harbors towards providing facilities and training for the County’s youth recreational program.


Boy Scouts

CYC provides the local Boy Scouts troop with complimentary use the CYC swimming pool to conduct swimming tests.


High School P.E. Credit Classes

CYC has partnered with Loyola High School, Pacific Palisades Charter School, and the Harvard-Westlake School to provide student sailing training for school physical education class credits.

Hardage Hospitality & Whiskey Red's

  • Hardage (Residence Inn Marina del Rey and Courtyard Marina del Rey) and GS Neptune co-developed, built, and paid for the public Waterfront Park and the promenade around Basin B, which cost $3.5 million.

  • Partnered with Boys & Girls Club of Los Angeles for their Summer Sailing Event, teaching kids about water safety and sailing skills.

  • After Summer Sailing Event we hosted 50+ boys and girls and their chaperones for a luncheon and award ceremony.

  • Partnered with SOFESA, a non-profit organization that helps homeless and low-income families with shelter, food, personal necessities, education, and more. Charity event at restaurant patio with 90 attendees raised over $8,000 for the organization.

  • Hosted American Red Cross Blood Drive and offered discount meals to 30 participants donating blood.

  • Contribute to local schools like Kentwood Elementary and Grant Elementary by donating gift cards for their silent auctions, read-a-thons, and more.

  • The gift cards are sought-after items in school fundraisers, generating interest in our establishment and enticing individuals to explore Marina del Rey's vibrant offerings across all segments of the County.

  • Contributions made to the Flight Test Historical Foundation for the Gathering of Eagles, Tower Cancer Research Foundation, and the National Association for Equal Justice in America. These donations support education and research and catalyze to bring more attention to the Marina del Rey community.

  • Donating the food for Venice Fire Station 63’s Pancake Breakfast Fair that, in conjunction with the LAX Coastal Chamber of Commerce, helped raise twenty-three $1,000 scholarships for underprivileged high school seniors.

  • Committed to expanding our outreach for community involvement and engagement with community groups.

Villa del Mar Apartments and Marina

  • Actively engages with the community by encouraging residents to contribute to various initiatives and enjoy certain activities on the property:

  1. This includes participating in the annual toy drive with toys distributed by the Sheriff’s Department, supporting Blood Drives, Covid and Flu Shot clinics, and donating books to the Veterans Association.

  2. Residents are also informed about local LA County events, fostering community connectivity.

  3. Residents benefit from well-maintained fitness facilities, saunas, tennis, and basketball courts, emphasizing physical fitness and overall well-being.

  4. The inclusion of EV Charging stations on-site, available to the public during business hours, underscores Villa del Mar's dedication to both residents and the broader community.

  • Notably, Villa del Mar sponsors the Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade, and the resident manager serves as Chairman of the Board.

  • The community further participates in Career Day events through the Marina del Rey Tourism Board and is an active member of the LAX Coastal Chamber, supporting and participating in their community events.

  • Additionally, Villa del Mar sponsors the Marina del Rey Historical Society, showcasing a commitment to local heritage.

Wayfarer

  • Provide 2 slips each summer (we will begin year-round in 2024) to the Boys and Girls Club of San Gabriel Valley providing access to 2000+ children to participate in their sailing program.

  • Annual Community Marina Clean up - each Earth Day.

  • Food Truck Wednesday - each Wednesday night a different food truck parked on Palawan Way for residents, boaters, the public.

  • Disseminate information on local events, including blood drives, etc., to residents and boaters to increase community participation.

  • We will begin in 2024 collecting Non-Perishables for the Holidays and will work with a food bank.

  • Back to School Drive this summer for local elementary schools based on needs.

  • Provide Kayas, Paddle Boards, and Beach Cruisers to reserve for our Residents and Boaters to enjoy free of charge.
